One of our youth members has begun a campaign to prevent bullying and support young people who have been victims of bullying. Support her and others in this amazing work by watching the video and letting youth you know that they are not alone.
We will switch back to our usual Sunday morning schedule the week after Labor Day. Sunday School will begin at 9:00am and will be followed by worship at 10:15 and a time of fellowship around 11:15.
Before the change, we invite you to join us for worship in the park with other churches in our area. That special outdoor worship service will be on Sunday, September 4th at 10:30am.
Our church has had several conversations about hosting a booth for RAGBRAI this year as a fundraiser, but we have recieved word of many organizations that need volunteers and help for their own fundraisers.
Instead of hosting our own booth, we want to encourage you to go out and represent our church well (perhaps wear one of our “Don’t Go to Church, BE THE CHURCH” t-shirts) as you help others.
Two places that have specifically asked us for help are the Marengo Community Center/Senior Dining Site and Pennies for the Pool.
The Community Center is serving pie and ice cream and they will be accepting home made pies on Thursday, July 28th from 1-5pm and Friday, July 29th from 7-10am at their Court Avenue location. They will be serving from 10am until it is all gone! If you would like to help serve that day, you could also volunteer with Julie (642-7458)
Pennies for the Pool needs volunteers for its “Hillbilly Hot Tub Booth” from 10-4 on July 29th. If you would like to volunteer there, contact Candi (642-7032). All proceeds will go towards a new pool for our young people in Marengo.
Pianist and Comedian Brian Hanson will be in concert Sunday evening, July 10, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 895 Court Avenue, Marengo, IA. Doors open at 5:30 PM, with the concert starting at 6:00 PM.
Through the vehicles of beautiful piano music, audience participation and a great sense of humor, Brian’s concerts are a unique blend of traditional favorites, the best of contemporary praise and worship and lots of laughs along the way. You won’t want to miss this special evening.
A love offering will be taken.
For further information, call the church at (319) 642-3146.
This summer, the youth of First United Methodist Church are going on a week-long mission trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. We will stock shelves in food pantries, paint the homes of the elderly, work with kids and do a lot of cleaning and scrubbing! In order to finance our trip, we need the support of our family, friends and our community.
One of the ways that YOU can support our youth is by becoming a stockholder in their experience. Shares of stock are only $25 and you (or business / organization) can buy as many shares as you like.
