One Great Hour of Sharing
This Sunday is one of six Special Sundays in the United Methodist Church that enable United Methodists like us to offer refuge in times of disaster, promote peace and justice, provide scholarships and student loans, reach out to the community, teach skills to encourage self-sufficiency and share the love of Jesus Christ with God’s people everywhere. As one local congregation, these things might be hard to accomplish, but through our connectional church - together with all of the other United Methodists around the country and the world - we can make a huge difference!
According to http://www.umcgiving.org - “If every one of the nearly 8.2 million United Methodists in the United States gave just $1 to each of the six churchwide Special Sunday offerings, the total would be nearly $50 million dollars. That money could strengthen community outreach, provide relief after disasters, educate college students, advocate for peace and justice, and do much moreāall around the world!”
This particular Sunday is One Great Hour of Sharing - with all offerings going to benefit the administrative and infrastructure of the United Methodist Committee on Relief or UMCOR. Your offering this Sunday means that with any money given to UMCOR for particular projects or relief efforts during the rest of the year, 100% of that money goes to those in need.
